Michigan man exits car following crash on I-75, dies after being hit by 2 vehicles

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – A Michigan man died after he was hit by multiple vehicles after getting out of his car along I-75.

Michigan State Police in Detroit responded to the scene on I-75 near Grange Hall Road in Oakland County’s Groveland Township at 10:20 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police say a 25-year-old man from Burton lost control of his vehicle and struck the right shoulder wall in the construction zone before.

He then got out of his car and started standing next to it in the left lane when the driver of a second vehicle crashed into the disabled car, police said.

The Burton man was struck and landed in the roadway where he was hit by a third vehicle, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no other reported injuries, and both drivers stopped and cooperated with the investigation.

“I cannot say this enough, stay in your car if you are involved in a crash,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw.

“The pedestrian who was not hurt during the initial crash, ended up losing his life due to standing in the road after that crash. Stay in your vehicle, keep your seatbelt on and call 911.”
