Jacksonville, FL – Fatal Truck Crash Closes SB Buckman Bridge at I-295

Jacksonville, FL (June 30, 2025) – A tragic accident early Monday morning claimed the life of a 28-year-old Jacksonville man after his pickup truck collided with a disabled box truck on the southbound lanes of the Buckman Bridge, part of Interstate 295.

The collision occurred around 6 a.m., just south of the U.S. 17 exit, during peak rush hour. According to a statement from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the pickup truck was traveling in the left lane when, for reasons still under investigation, it veered into the left emergency lane and struck the rear end of a stationary box truck.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue crews responded swiftly, along with state troopers, but the driver of the pickup truck—identified only as a 28-year-old local man—was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the box truck, a 43-year-old man from Tampa and his 27-year-old passenger, were uninjured in the incident.

Following the crash, the pickup truck came to rest across the right center and right lanes, leading to a complete closure of southbound lanes on the Buckman Bridge for several hours. Morning commuters experienced extensive delays as authorities worked to investigate the crash, document the scene, and clear the wreckage.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether driver distraction, visibility issues, or other roadway factors may have contributed. No charges have been filed at this time.

Our hearts go out to the family of the victim during this incredibly difficult time.
