The driver of a semi truck who was standing near his vehicle was struck and killed Wednesday after a collision with another semi, Long Beach police said.
Officers responded to the 2600 block of Pier T Avenue around 6:40 a.m. to reports of a traffic collision investigation, according to the LBPD.
Long Beach Fire Department paramedics were already attending to the victim before the officers’ arrival, but despite efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives later determined the victim had parked his semi along the south curb of Pier T Avenue and exited the vehicle, standing near the engine compartment.
“The force of the impact caused the man to fall to the ground at which point he was run over by his semi truck,” the LBPD said in a statement.
The driver of the second semi remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
The name of the victim was being withheld pending notification of relatives.
