The 47-year-old semi truck driver struck and killed by another semi truck when he was standing outside his vehicle in Long Beach was identified Friday.
Officers responded Wednesday to the 2600 block of Pier T Avenue around 6:40 a.m. to reports of a collision investigation, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Long Beach Fire Department paramedics were already attending to the victim before the officers’ arrival, but despite efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives later determined the victim had parked his truck along the south curb of Pier T Avenue and exited the vehicle, standing near the engine compartment.
“The force of the impact caused the man to fall to the ground at which point he was run over by his semi truck,” the LBPD said in a statement.
The driver of the second truck remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
The victim was identified Friday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Lihuan Wu.
