Somerville woman, 89, killed, man, 90, injured in Route 22 crash in Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER – An 89-year-old Somerville woman died June 2 after the car in which she was a passenger struck a disabled shuttle bus on Route 22.

Jung Bang died in the crash at about 3:20 p.m. June 2 on westbound Route 22 in the vicinity of Bill Vince’s Bridgewater Acura, according to township police.

Bang was the front-seat passenger in a 2009 Hyundai Sonata driven by 90-year-old Won Park, also of Somerville, that drifted to the right shoulder and struck a 2009 Chevrolet Shuttle Bus that was parked and disabled on the right shoulder, police said.

Bang was pronounced dead at the scene. Park sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Morristown Medical Center for treatment.

Traffic on Route 22, one of the busiest highways in Central Jersey, was tied up for hours during the afternoon and evening rush hour. The highway was closed until about 7 p.m. for the police investigation of the crash.

The Bridgewater Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau is continuing to investigate.
