Woman who was in car stopped on I-44 after crash is struck, killed by another car

FENTON, Mo. — A woman was killed minutes before midnight Saturday in a St. Louis County crash, police said.

The woman, 27, from Caseyville, Illinois, was in a 2011 Toyota Camry that was stopped on I-44, blocking a westbound lane after a previous collision, a crash report from police said.

According to the report, a second vehicle, a 2021 Ford SUV, was traveling in the westbound lanes when it rear-ended the Camry.

Fenton Fire Protection District crews responded to the scene, according to police. First responders said the woman died before she could be rushed to the hospital.

The crash happened on I-44 near Mraz Lane, about 1.5 miles west of I-270, the report said.

The woman killed in the crash was not wearing a seatbelt, the report said.

The crash is being investigated by Missouri State Highway Police’s Troop C, which serves the following counties: Franklin, Jefferson, Lincoln, Perry, Pike, St. Charles, St. Francois, St. Louis, Ste. Genevieve, Warren, and Washington.

This marks the 71st crash fatality for Troop C, a police spokesperson said.

In 2024, Troop C reported 275 vehicle fatalities, according to its webpage.

A report on the first crash was not available Sunday morning.
