STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A crash on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge caused injuries to a person early Monday morning.
The crash was reported at around 1:35 a.m., on the upper level of the Brooklyn-bound side of the span, according to a spokesperson for the MTA.
According to the MTA, a motorist got out of his disabled vehicle to start pushing it when another vehicle rear-ended the disabled vehicle, pushing the individual against the center median.
“The upper level was closed from 2:07 a.m. to 3:53 a.m. while emergency personnel responded,” a spokesperson for the MTA said to the Advance/SILive.com “The individual hit by the second vehicle was transported with non-life-threatening injuries to NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn.”
A spokesperson for the FDNY said that there were four people with minor injuries and one person with critical injuries as a result of the collision.
The injured were transported to area hospitals and in unknown condition, the spokesperson said.
All lanes were closed for approximately one hour a spokesperson for the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information confirmed.
