WESTFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) - A father of four died on Monday after his car hydroplaned and hit a tractor trailer parked in the shoulder of I-71.
According to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), a woman was driving south on I-71 near Westfield Township around 7:20 p.m. when her vehicle hydroplaned and went off the side of the road.
The vehicle then hit a tractor-trailer on the right shoulder of the road, according to the OSHP.
Forty-two-year-old Ryan L. Broyles, Sr., a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead on the scene, OSHP said.
Broyles’ 20-year-old son was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The female driver was also taken to the hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.
Broyles’ other three children were also in the car and were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, the release said.
The driver in the semi was not injured.
I-71 was closed for around one hour Monday evening due to the crash.
The crash is still under investigation.
