Pedestrian hit, killed on I-65 in northwest Indiana, others injured in crash: state police

A pedestrian was hit and killed on Interstate 65 in northwest Indiana over the weekend, Indiana State Police said Monday.

Troopers responded just before midnight Sunday to a multi-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes of I-65 at mile marker 254 in Lake County, police said.

The driver of a black 2005 Cadillac had tried to pull over, and was partially stopped in the right lane due to the lack of an emergency shoulder, police said.

The crash site is about 1 mile north of U.S. 30, and had a multi-lane shift for construction.

The driver was trying to put gas into their car, when a passing Ford Flex hit him, police said.

The Ford Flex then hit a concrete barrier wall, resulting in another crash involving a northbound vehicle and the wall, police said.

The pedestrian hit died at the scene. The Lake County coroner identified him as Anthony Drake, 58, from Gary.

The other drivers involved in the crash were treated at local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.
