Stoughton, WI (July 15, 2025) – A 37-year-old man from Janesville was killed early Monday morning in a collision involving an SUV and a semi-truck on Interstate 39/90 near Stoughton. The crash was reported just before 5:50 a.m. on July 14, in the northbound lanes near the US-51 interchange, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Investigators say the SUV crashed into the rear of a semi tractor-trailer that was parked on the right shoulder of the interstate. The impact caused significant damage to the SUV, and the driver—who was the sole occupant—was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the semi, a 22-year-old man, was not injured in the crash.
Wisconsin State Patrol troopers conducted a full reconstruction of the crash site and performed an inspection of the semi-truck as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not yet confirmed the reason the semi was parked on the shoulder at the time of the crash.
The northbound lanes were temporarily restricted while crews investigated and cleared the scene.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim during this heartbreaking time.
