WINONA COUNTY, Minn. – A southeast Minnesota woman was killed Thursday when she exited her vehicle after crashing.
The Minnesota State Patrol says it happened around 4:40 am at the intersection of US Highway 61 and Winona County Road 7. Investigators say a passenger car was heading east, crossed the highway, and crashed into the ditch.
The State Patrol says the driver of the car, Lois Irene Davis, 72 of Winona, got out of the vehicle and walked across US Highway 61. The crash report says Davis was hit by a vehicle in the left southbound lane. That vehicle stopped, but the State Patrol says Davis was then struck again by another vehicle.
Davis was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators have identified one of the other vehicles involved in this fatal incident as a 2001 Chevy S10 driven by Chad Walter Erlandson, 44 of Winona.
The Winona County Sheriff’s Office, Winona Police Department, Pickwick Fire Department, and Minnesota Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
