NETHER PROVIDENCE, PA — A woman who was walking along Interstate 476 in Delaware County after her vehicle became disabled was hurt when a passing vehicle struck her early Tuesday morning.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the incident happened at about 4:38 a.m. near mile marker 1.6 on Interstate 476 north in Nether Providence Township.
The woman, 53 and from Springfield, was walking on the white fog line on the right side of the highway after her vehicle became disabled, police said.
As she walked, she held her left arm out in traffic, indicating she needed a ride, police said.
A vehicle of unknown make and model heading north on the highway passed her, and in doing so struck her left hand, according to authorities.
The impact broke her hand, police said.
She was taken to Riddle Hospital by EMS, and police searched the area for the striking vehicle but were unable to find it.
