Hogansville police are investigating a tragic motor vehicle collision that left one person deceased.
The collision occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday, August 24, 2025, on I-85 southbound near mile marker 29, when a vehicle became disabled on the interstate which caused a secondary accident when the disabled vehicle was struck by a semi-truck, resulting in an explosion.
“Tragically, one fatality has been confirmed,” Hogansville Police Chief Jeffrey Sheppard said. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending forensic identification by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office.
“Due to conflicting witness statements, the LaGrange Police Department was requested and assisted by conducting a cursory search of the area using a drone and tracking dog to ensure no one had been ejected from the vehicle,” Chief Sheppard added.
The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
