CLEVELAND — A 24-year-old service technician was airlifted to hospital after he was struck by a dump truck while working at the side of a Tuscarawas County highway, troopers said.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the technician was working on the left front tire of a disabled commercial truck on the southwest berm of U.S. Route 250 in Goshen Township. The man had parked his service truck and was working alongside the driver of the disabled vehicle, when a 2005 Sterling L8500 dump truck drifted over the fog line and hit the service technician.
The driver of the Sterling truck left the scene after hitting the 24-year-old man, troopers said. The crash happened around 12:19 p.m. near milepost 12.1 of U.S. 250.
The service technician was flown to an Akron hospital. The driver of the disabled truck, a 28-year-old man, was treated on scene for “possible injuries,” the highway patrol said.
The suspect and the suspect truck were seen hours later at a local business, troopers say.
The crash is under investigation. Any witnesses of the crash are asked to call OSHP’s New Philadelphia Highway Patrol post at 330-339-1103.
