1 dead, 1 injured in south Sacramento crash, CHP says

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A person was killed and another was injured in a crash Saturday morning in Sacramento, the California Highway Patrol said.

Emergency medical services were dispatched around 7:13 a.m. to the crash site on northbound I-5, just north of Sutterville Road in the Upper Land Park neighborhood.

A pickup truck became disabled after losing a tire and was hit from behind by a big rig hauling two trailers that didn’t have enough time to evade. Both vehicles caught on fire following the collision, CHP said.

The pickup truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The big rig driver was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash. The incident remains under investigation, CHP said
