LEE COUNTY, Fla. — A man was arrested after he was suspected of being part of a hit-and-run that took place on Interstate 75 Monday night.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Kia Sorento was disabled and stopped on the right shoulder of southbound Interstate 75 at Mile Marker 131 around 9:00 p.m.
When the driver attempted to get out of the vehicle, a Dodge Ram pickup truck hit the Kia driver’s door and then left the scene.
The driver of the Kia, a 24-year-old Bonita Springs man, was taken to Gulf Coast Medical Center with serious injuries.
A witness walking a dog saw evidence from the crash scene in a wooded area and called law enforcement, the FHP report states.
The Dodge Ram pickup truck was eventually found with significant right-side damage in a nearby apartment complex parking lot. Troopers say the truck appeared to have been wiped down.
They said the alleged driver of the truck, Lucas James Ward, 22, was found at the same apartment complex. He was arrested and faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash with serious injury and tampering with evidence.
