OHP: Driver dies after crashing into school bus unloading children on Rogers County highway

ROGERS COUNTY, Okla. — Authorities say one person was killed in a crash involving a school bus Wednesday afternoon on a highway in northeastern Oklahoma.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol incident report states that crash happened on U.S. 169 at EW 370 Road in Rogers County. The crash caused the highway to be closed for about three hours.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the school bus was stopped on the outside lane of southbound U.S. 169 unloading children when another vehicle didn’t stop and crashed into the bus. Authorities said the Oologah-Talala Public Schools bus had its flashing lights activated and stop sign extended when the pickup truck crashed into the back of it.

The person driving the pickup truck died at the scene. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol identified the driver as David Witty, 66, of South Coffeyville.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s report states that 27 passengers were on the school bus. Nine students had minor injuries.

Rogers County is located northeast of Tulsa and is more than a two-hour drive from Oklahoma City.
