Investigation underway after multiple vehicles crash on I-70

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A person was evaluated at the hospital after a multiple-vehicle crash on I-70 westbound near mile marker 36 late Friday night.

According to the HHPD, officers were dispatched to a report of an injury accident involving multiple vehicles at 7:20 p.m.

The initial investigation found one vehicle might have struck a disabled vehicle on the shoulder outside of the roadway, which might caused a secondary crash.

“The driver of one of the vehicles, who was conscious at the scene, was transported to the hospital for further evaluation,” wrote HHPD.

The crash is under active investigation by HHPD officers to determine the primary cause of the crash.

The first 911 caller parked and then walked into the scene to help others, “I see a semi sideways against the retaining wall.”

He asked a man if he was alright, then some others.

“We got a truck in the right-hand ditch. We got two cars in front of the semi that’s in the wall,” he changes midsentence, calling out to more people, “- any injuries? Do you guys have any injuries?”

He saw another car with great damage and said, “This car is [expletive] up. There’s got to be injuries.”

Dispatch asked if its airbags were deployed.

“Yes, there’s injures,” said the caller. “We got one unconscious. Yeah, he’s trapped… the whole passenger side is demolished, crushed in. He’s gasping, he’s upside down, almost.”

He called out to the man and told dispatch he couldn’t reach him. The man was then aided by a nurse on scene.

The second 911 caller said she saw a car spin out and then get t-boned just before the exit ramp.

“Okay, there’s also a semi that looks like they might’ve hit the barrier, oh, [expletive]. That’s kind of bad,” said the caller. She then helped check on the man.

A third caller said they saw a ton of cars and pulled over. She said she saw a man who looked injured.

The fourth caller gave the location.
