Man and his dog killed on NYS Thruway after SUV hits tractor-trailer

A driver and his dog were killed this week in a crash on the New York State Thruway.

The deadly accident happened around 5:15 p.m. Monday on Interstate 90 west in Albany in the Capital Region.

David R. Hall, of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, was driving west on the Thruway when his SUV veered off the road and struck the back of a flatbed tractor-trailer that had stopped on the shoulder of the highway, the New York State Police said in a news release.

Hall was extricated from his damaged SUV and rushed to Albany Medical Center with “severe” injuries, troopers said. The 46-year-old man died in the hospital on Tuesday.

Hall’s dog was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, troopers said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was outside his flatbed, inspecting the vehicle at the time of the accident, troopers said. The tractor-trailer driver, whose name was not released, was not injured.

The right lane of I-90 west was closed for about five hours while troopers investigated the deadly crash.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, troopers said.
