Trooper struck on I-76 W, taken to hospital

ROOTSTOWN, Ohio (WJW) — A trooper was struck on Interstate 76 westbound during a snowy morning commute Thursday, Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed to FOX 8 News.

The incident took place just after 10 a.m. near mile marker 39 in Rootstown Township, just south of Ravenna. The trooper was reportedly investigating a traffic accident that had taken place around 9:20 a.m. and was struck from behind while sitting in his cruiser.

According to a press release, the trooper was parked on the right berm, outside all traffic lanes with his emergency lights activated.

A driver traveling in the right lane lost control, according to troopers.

The car went off the road, hit a guardrail and then hit the trooper’s car.

The trooper was taken to the hospital for what are described as minor injuries.
