ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) - A Virginia State Police trooper was injured Wednesday morning during a tractor trailer crash on Interstate 81 in Rockingham County, according to VSP.
The incident happened around 5:47 a.m. near the 250-mie marker on I-81 northbound. The trooper was checking on two tractor trailers on the right shoulder of the interstate when a third tractor trailer traveling north hit the trooper’s vehicle, VSP said in a release.
The trooper was taken to the hospital to be examined, VSP said, though she had non-life-threatening injuries. The trooper’s K-9 was also taken to a veterinarian to be examined.
VSP identified the tractor trailer driver as Nakia J. Bedward, 51, of Charlotte, North Carolina. Bedward was charged with reckless driving, and the crash remains under investigation.
