Woman killed in multi-vehicle crash on Eastex Freeway, Houston Police Department says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – A 23-year-old woman is dead after a multi-vehicle crash on the Eastex Freeway on Thursday, Houston police said.

The Houston Police Department reported that the deadly crash happened in the 700 block of the Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 6:50 a.m on Thursday.

According to HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant Ross and Officer Ho, while the freeway was partially blocked due to a previous crash, a white Honda Accord struck a gray Nissan Kicks from behind.

Police said the driver of the Nissan then got out of her car and was standing on the side of the freeway when a maroon Ford F150 struck the rear of the Honda. The Honda then struck the retaining wall and the woman.

Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene, according to police.

Officials said the identity of the woman is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Authorities said the driver and passenger in the Honda and a passenger in the Ford were taken to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford was not injured, according to police.

HPD said the investigation is still ongoing.
