Car passes stopped school bus, hits child in Clark County

BATTLE GROUND Wash. (KPTV) - A child was slightly injured Monday morning when a car hit them as they crossed NE Allworth Road in Battle Ground, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at about 8:51 a.m. near the 19300 block of NE Allworth Road. Investigators said a school bus had stopped to pick up an elementary school student. As the child began crossing, a sedan traveling in the opposite direction slowed but did not stop. The sedan’s front passenger-side corner hit the child, who fell to the ground.

The driver stopped immediately and cooperated with investigators. The driver was ticketed for passing a stopped school bus.

The sheriff’s office reminds drivers to stop for school buses when required by law. Failing to stop can result in a fine of more than $400.
