Jacksonville man dies after swerving to avoid disabled vehicle on I-295, hitting semi-truck

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 29-year-old Jacksonville man died early Sunday morning after swerving to avoid a disabled vehicle on I-295 and hitting a semi-truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the man was driving southbound in the center lane of I-295 at Wilson Boulevard when he swerved to the left to avoid a disabled vehicle, rear-ending a semi-truck.

Troopers said the semi-truck was stopped on the inside shoulder of the interstate, while the driver was assisting the disabled vehicle.

After the collision, FHP said the Jacksonville man’s vehicle rotated and came to rest, blocking the left lane.

The man died from his injuries, and no one else was injured, according to FHP.

All southbound lanes of I-295 at Wilson Boulevard closed for hours following the incident.
