East Lackawannock Township, PA (February 22, 2026) – A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle on Thursday evening, February 19, on Interstate 80 in Mercer County. The crash occurred just after 6:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 15.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, a vehicle driven by 58-year-old Gregory Booty of Vienna Township was disabled on the shoulder of the roadway. Investigators said Booty exited his vehicle and walked toward the median.
Authorities reported that Booty was then struck by a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado operated by 26-year-old Wesley Rose of Franklin. The impact caused fatal injuries.
Booty was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:30 p.m., according to the Mercer County Coroner’s Office. Officials ruled the death accidental and stated that it resulted from multiple blunt force injuries.
Rose was not injured in the collision, though his vehicle sustained disabling damage. Authorities have not announced whether any charges will be filed.
Officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
