Highway 149 reopens after multi-car crash in Butte County Monday afternoon

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. — A traffic collision on Highway 70 at the Highway 149 split left two people injured Monday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene around 12:36 p.m.

According to CHP, a vehicle ended up disabled in the center median with a female driver trapped inside. A second vehicle involved sustained significant rear-end damage and was located on the right shoulder.

The crash occurred during Caltrans roadway work, which had caused lane closures and slowed traffic. One driver reported being stopped for several seconds before being hit by a gold SUV. The SUV’s driver was transported to a local hospital with major injuries, while the other driver reported neck pain.

The investigation remains ongoing as CHP and Caltrans crews continue to clear the roadway. CHP thanked CAL FIRE/Butte County and ButteCountyEMS for their swift response and assistance.
