LANDERS — A man who stepped onto Old Woman Springs Road early Thursday was hit and killed by a Bureau of Land Management officer in a patrol truck, the CHP said.
The county coroner’s office had not released the name of the victim by presstime Tuesday. The CHP did not release the name of the BLM officer.
According to CHP Officer B. Schmidt, the collision happened around 1:04 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, when a man associated with a disabled vehicle was stopped on Old Woman Springs Road just south of Ghost Road.
The BLM officer was driving a patrol pickup truck south on Old Woman Springs Road approaching Ghost Road. The CHP said the pedestrian walked west across the northbound lane of the highway and entered the southbound lane, stepping into the path of the BLM vehicle.
The pedestrian was hit and killed. The BLM officer suffered moderate injuries; Schmidt said he was not taken to the hospital.
The CHP is investigating the crash.
