Mother and teen son dead after van strikes log on disabled truck in Clarendon County

CLARENDON COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have identified two victims who died in a Friday crash in Clarendon County as a mother and son.

Master Trooper William Bennett with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around noon on Greeleyville Highway near Bay Shadow Drive.

Bennett said a 2015 Toyota Sienna was heading north on Greeleyville Highway when it struck a log on an unoccupied Western Star truck with a log trailer that was disabled in the northbound lane.

Bennett said the Toyota then traveled off the road to the right and hit a tree. Both the passenger and driver in the Toyota died at the scene.

Clarendon County Coroner Jacqueline Blackwell said the adult victim was 38-year-old Heather Strebeck of Manning, and said the other victim was her 13-year-old son. Blackwell chose not to release the teen’s name because he was a minor.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
