Mustang driver goes off highway, crushes 2 bystanders

Two people were hurt Thursday night on Highway 28 near Quincy when a driver went off the road and hit a car on the shoulder of the highway.

A man and woman who were standing next to the car were pinned between the vehicle and another car that was parked next to it.

The crash was reported at 7:15 p.m. Feb. 12 on Highway 28 at Adams Road North, three miles east of Quincy.

The injured bystanders were identified as a 48-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man, both from Quincy.

The driver was identified as a 77-year-old man from Moses Lake.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the injured man and woman were standing between a 2010 Ford Fusion and a 2020 Toyota Camry that were stopped on the eastbound shoulder of the highway.

The Moses Lake man, driving a 2015 Ford Mustang, left the highway and went onto the shoulder, hitting the Ford Fusion. The Ford was pushed into the two bystanders and pinned them between the sedan and the Toyota.

They were taken to Quincy Valley Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Mustang wasn’t injured.

The cause of the crash was improper lane usage, according to the State Patrol.
