N.J. man killed in I-287 crash after exiting disabled car

A 22-year-old man was killed Monday night after getting out of his disabled vehicle on an exit ramp off Interstate 287, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 9:45 p.m. at Exit 14B near milepost 14.4 in Bridgewater Township in Somerset County, according to New Jersey State Police.

Vince M. Veglatte, of Bridgewater, was driving a vehicle that became disabled in the left lane of the ramp, which leads to U.S. 22 West from I-287 North, troopers said.

Veglatte was standing outside the vehicle when an SUV struck the rear of Veglatte’s car, which then struck him, troopers said.

Veglatte died of his injuries. His passenger and two occupants of the SUV sustained minor injuries.
