1 dead, 2 injured in fiery 3-truck crash on N.J. Turnpike

A New Jersey man was killed and two other people were injured Monday in a fiery three-truck crash on the New Jersey Turnpike in Middlesex County, according to State Police.

Troopers responded around 9:57 a.m. to a report of a crash at milepost 92.6 on the northbound outer roadway of the turnpike in Woodbridge.

Authorities said Maximo Polanco, 34, of Ridgefield, was driving a Kenworth dump truck northbound approaching the Grover Cleveland Service Area when the vehicle struck the rear of an International tractor-trailer parked on the right shoulder before the service area.

The impact caused the International tractor-trailer to hit the rear of a Freightliner tractor parked in front of it, State Police said.

Following the crash, the Kenworth and International vehicles became fully engulfed in flames, officials said.

Polanco died from his injuries, State Police said.

The drivers of the other two trucks suffered minor injuries and were taken to an area hospital, authorities said.

The crash remains under investigation.
