Little Falls Man Charged After Truck Hits State Police Vehicle on Thruway

SULLIVAN, N.Y. – A Little Falls man faces charges after a tractor-trailer hit a New York State Police patrol vehicle on the New York State Thruway in Madison County.

New York State Police reported that around 1 p.m. on March 25, a trooper stopped near mile marker 273 in the Town of Sullivan to clear debris from the road.

The patrol vehicle had its emergency lights on and was parked in the right lane.

Troopers said Seth J. Horender, 55, was driving a truck with a dump trailer when he tried to go around the patrol car by illegally passing on the right shoulder.

The truck hit the patrol vehicle and kept going east for about 20 miles before troopers stopped it, according to NYSP.

The trooper saw the truck coming and moved to the median to avoid getting hurt.

The tractor-trailer, registered to Longhorn Trucking Company of Fort Plain, was inspected at the Thruway Verona tandem lot.

Troopers found damage to the left trailer wheels and rims, and the patrol vehicle was towed away.

Troopers gave Horender field sobriety tests and found no signs of impairment.

He was charged with several vehicle and traffic law violations, including failure to avoid hitting an emergency vehicle under the Move Over Law, and was cited for having an overweight vehicle.

Horender is scheduled to appear in Sullivan Town Court on April 21, 2026.

New York State Police remind drivers that the Move Over Law requires motorists to slow down, stay alert and move over when safely possible for any vehicles stopped along the road.
