Londonderry man dies after car struck in breakdown lane of I-93 in Derry

A Londonderry man died at a local hospital after his vehicle was struck from behind while stopped on the shoulder of Interstate 93 in Derry, State Police said.

Larry Niles Jr., 53, was killed following a two-vehicle crash on I-93 southbound near mile marker 10 in Derry, State Police said.

Troopers responded just before 2 p.m. Monday to find that Niles’s 2007 Ford Focus had been stopped in the right breakdown lane when it was rear-ended by a 2015 Chevrolet Express van driven by Aiden McCarthy, 22, of Dracut, Mass. McCarthy was not injured, police said.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by members of the Derry Fire Department, Londonderry Fire Department and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
