GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Multiple injuries have been reported after a multi‑vehicle pileup, including an ambulance, shut down part of southbound US‑131 early Saturday morning.
Michigan State Police (MSP) said the crash happened around 1:30 a.m. on southbound US‑131 near Burton Street.
The preliminary investigation showed a BMW was traveling too fast for the icy road conditions, lost control and crashed. Several other vehicles then lost control and crashed into each other.
An ambulance that was stopped on the scene with its emergency lights on was also hit.
Multiple injuries were reported, however, none are believed to be life-threatening.
The freeway was closed for about an hour and a half while troopers investigated and crews worked to clear the scene.
MSP is reminding drivers to slow down and use caution while driving on icy roads.
