Pre‑dawn crash on I‑77 leaves woman dead

DAVIDSON, N.C. — A 24‑year‑old Alabama woman was killed early Saturday after she was struck on Interstate 77 in Iredell County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Kylah Wheeler was standing on the interstate outside her vehicle when she was struck, according to troopers. Around 4:15 a.m., Wheeler had exited her vehicle, which was disabled in the right lane. Investigators said, “Wheeler had improperly parked her vehicle on the roadway with no lights.”

Another vehicle traveling northbound on I-77 struck Wheeler’s disabled car, according to troopers. Wheeler was injured when she was struck by her own vehicle.

Wheeler succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the crash.

As a result of the investigation, the interstate lanes were closed for several hours.

No charges are being filed in the case, according to troopers. Neither speed nor impairment appears to be a contributor to the collision.
