Truck driver cited after tractor-trailer hits SC trooper’s patrol car on I-95 shoulder

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — A South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper was not injured after a tractor-trailer struck his patrol vehicle early Tuesday on Interstate 95, according to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened around 3:21 a.m. on March 24 along northbound I-95 near mile marker 75. Investigators said the trooper had stopped on the shoulder to assist a disabled vehicle when a passing tractor-trailer hit the marked patrol car.

Authorities cited the truck driver with endangering emergency services personnel following an investigation by the sheriff’s office traffic unit.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

The sheriff’s office said the crash was preventable and reminded motorists to move over for emergency vehicles stopped on the roadside. If changing lanes is not safe, drivers are required to slow down.
