WATCH: Florida deputy makes narrow escape as truck hits patrol car during traffic stop on I-4

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida deputy made a narrow escape on Tuesday when a passing open car hauler hit the side of his patrol car during a traffic stop, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

Body camera footage shows the deputy conducting a traffic stop on I-4. He began walking to his patrol car when a truck hit the driver’s side of the car.

A deputy talked to the driver of the truck, who struggled to understand him due to a language barrier.

“You know you could’ve killed me if I was getting in my car,” the deputy said. “I’d have been dead right now.”

Footage of the patrol car shows a large hole in the driver’s side of the patrol car.

“Could have been a tragedy, but instead it’s the latest reminder to move over for vehicles on the side of the road,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
