Bowie resident Mijah Smith was the sole occupant of a BMW SUV that was involved in a fatal crash in Prince George’s County late on Monday night, according to Maryland State Police.

Investigators say shortly before 10:15 p.m. on April 13, Smith was driving on the interstate near Maryland 704 when, for unknown reasons, she traveled off the roadway, struck a barrier, and the vehicle became inoperable between the shoulder and left lane.

While on the side of the road, police say an Acura driver attempted to avoid the BMW, but ultimately struck the barrier and then the SUV.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by state police troopers. The driver of the Acura was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation.
