JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two men were killed Wednesday morning in Duval County after a driver swerved off Interstate 95, hitting them as they stood beside their vehicles, according to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
FHP said a 63-year-old man was traveling north on I-95 near Old St. Augustine Road in the left lane when he noticed two vehicles parked ahead inside the lane.
Troopers said the vehicles were stopped “for reasons yet to be determined.”
According to FHP, the drivers of the two vehicles parked, a 56-year-old Palm Coast man and a 38-year-old Jacksonville man, were standing in the inside shoulder near their vehicles.
FHP said the man driving swerved into the inside shoulder, hitting the two men and their vehicles.
The man driving reportedly did not suffer any injuries in the crash. The two men who were hit died at the scene, FHP said.
Troopers did not release the identities of the individuals involved.
Officials remain on the left shoulder of I-95 near Old St. Augustine Road as of 10 a.m. due to the crash. This, after all northbound lanes closed in the area immediately following the crash.
