A Pennsylvania man died early Sunday after being pinned between two vehicles following a crash on Route 1 in South Brunswick, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

The office did not identify the Chester, Pennsylvania man, who was 53 years old.

The man was driving a sport-utility vehicle on Route 1 north when he struck the rear of another car driven by a 31-year-old Jersey City woman near the Ridge Road intersection at about 2 a.m. The two drivers and a passenger in the woman’s car got out to exchange information, the office said.

While they were out of their vehicles, a car driven by a 45-year-old Trenton man struck the rear of the Pennsylvania man’s car while he stood between the two stopped vehicles. First responders got the man to a local hospital, but he later died of his injuries.

The Trenton man and the Jersey City woman were also taken to a hospital for injuries, the office said.

The crash is under investigation by South Brunswick police and the prosecutor’s office.
