Van Buren woman missing for 5 days OK after side-by-side riders find her in crashed Jeep on remote White Rock Mountain trail

VAN BUREN — A 72-year-old Van Buren woman was found safe Saturday in the rugged White Rock Mountain area in northwestern Franklin County, five days after she went missing.

“She is OK and is receiving medical treatment at a local hospital,” Lt. Jay Baker, public information officer for the Van Buren Police Department, said Monday.

The department issued an alert Wednesday after Sharon Brasher was reported missing by family members. She was last seen the night of April 27 and was believed to be driving a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, police reported.

“Sharon has health issues that have family and friends concerned for her welfare,” the department reported at the time.

On Saturday, some side-by-side riders found Brasher in her overturned vehicle on a remote trail at White Rock Mountain where she is believed to have been for two days, Baker said. The area is near the northeast corner of Crawford County.

“Franklin County Search and Rescue, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Forest Service personnel and others combined to take very good care of her and to get her out safely,” Baker said.

White Rock Mountain is about 3.6 miles in a direct line north of Shores Lake, area maps show, but getting there by car is an approximately 20-mile trip that takes nearly an hour on winding roads in steep terrain.
