ST. LOUIS — A woman who was trying to help a stranger who crashed on Interstate 70 Friday morning was struck and killed by another vehicle.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, Accident Reconstruction investigators were called at about 1:15 a.m. Friday to a pedestrian crash on eastbound I-70 at Union Boulevard.
In an update Friday morning, police said a Ford Explorer crashed on the wet highway and came to a stop in the roadway. Police said an unidentified woman was walking toward the car to help the driver of the Explorer when a Chevrolet Silverado struck the woman and the Ford Explorer.
Police said the person was critically injured and later died due to their injuries, and the vehicle that struck them remained on site.
The driver of the Silverado suffered minor injuries.
5 On Your Side saw at least four vehicles with damage at the scene that appeared to be involved in the crash.
All eastbound lanes were closed as crews worked the crash. It was cleared, and all lanes were reopened at about 5:20 a.m., according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.
