Woman standing in back of disabled RV killed during rear-end crash: SCHP

DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — A woman died in a two-vehicle crash on Sunday afternoon, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP).

The incident occured at around 2:00 p.m. on East Bobo Newsom Highway near Narrow Bridge Road

Troopers said two vehicles were involved: a 1996 Ford RV and a 2016 Ford Explorer.

The RV was reportedly disabled in the roadway on East Bobo Newsom Highway, headed west. The Explorer was also travelling west when it struck the RV from behind.

At the time of the crash, SCHP said the RV’s occupant, Barbara Anne Purdy, of Hartsville, was standing in the back of the RV. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Explorer was injured and taken to a local hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
