One person died in a crash after a vehicle struck a car and and an Illinois Department of Transportation SUV that were stopped along Interstate 57 near Blue Island, authorities said.
The collision was reported at around 4:46 a.m. Saturday in the northbound lanes of the interstate near 127th Street.
Police said a passenger vehicle and IDOT SUV were involved in a crash and pulled over onto the left shoulder. While there, the vehicles were struck by a third vehicle.
One person was transported to an area hospital and pronounced dead from their injuries.
An IDOT worker sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
As of Saturday morning, both lanes were shut down for the crash investigation, with traffic getting by on the right shoulder.
