POLK CITY, Fla. - An Apopka man was killed Tuesday morning when a car struck him while he stood outside his parked vehicle on the shoulder of westbound I-4, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said a 47-year-old man from Apopka died from his injuries at a nearby hospital after a crash shortly before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the man was standing outside a Chevy Silverado towing a trailer, which was parked on the outside paved shoulder of westbound I-4 near mile-marker 44.
According to troopers, an Orlando driver behind the wheel of a Toyota Camry was traveling westbound when he lost control of his vehicle, veered onto the shoulder and struck the pedestrian, causing fatal injuries.
Westbound lanes on the interstate were temporarily shut down but have since reopened to traffic.
