Man hit, killed while trying to fix tire on side of road after crash, coroner says

ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. — A 24-year-old man was hit and killed by a vehicle while trying to fix his tire after being in a crash, according to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s office said just before 11 p.m. Monday, June 22, authorities were called to the area of Whitehall and Pearman Dairy Road near the QuikTrip and Papa Bear Car Wash in Anderson.

They said they found that two people had been hit by a car. Tyheim Pickens, 24, died at the scene and another person who was also hit was taken to the hospital.

The coroner’s office said preliminary investigation showed that Pickens was involved in a prior wreck that had disabled the vehicle he was in. He was trying to fix a tire on the car when he was hit by a vehicle traveling on Pearman Dairy Road, the coroner’s office said.

The cause of death is multiple traumatic injuries, and the manner of death has been ruled accidental.
