NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — An 82-year-old man died after deputies say he was hit by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 20.
The crash happened after 4:15 a.m. on I-20 eastbound near Exit 101 in Newton County. Channel 2 Action News This Morning reported that all lanes were shut down for the investigation.
Deputies say Bruce Bartenfelder, 82, and his wife were traveling on the interstate when they started to have mechanical problems with a boat they were towing.
Bartenfelder pulled onto the right shoulder and got out of their vehicle. Deputies say the 82-year-old was standing in the right eastbound lane when a tractor-trailer hit him.
He died at the scene. The sheriff’s office says no charges are pending against the tractor-trailer driver at this time.
The investigation remains ongoing.
