COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A Detroit man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-skip crash that killed a 27-year-old Marion man.
Ohio State Highway Patrol officers identified 47-year-old Devon R. Kennedy as the driver of the Mercury Grand Marquis involved in the crash.
According to OSHP reports, the crash happened Tuesday near Waldo on U.S. Route 23 in Marion County.
Kennedy was driving the Mercury when he veered off the road hitting a disabled vehicle.
The victim, identified as Dempsy L. DeAngelo was standing outside of the vehicle when the crash occurred.
Immediately after impact, Kennedy took off on foot with a child in tow who was riding in the vehicle.
An additional passenger in the car with Kennedy, 44-year-old, DeJuan Kennedy, was not injured and stayed at the scene of the crash until authorities arrived.
DeAngelo suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
OSHP initially asked the public to help locate and identify the driver, posting camera footage of Kennedy and the child acquired after the accident.
Kennedy was arrested Wednesday afternoon by the OSHP’s Special Response Team after locating him at a Columbus residence.
He has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, a third-degree felony and is in custody at the Franklin County Corrections Center.
No update has been provided on the child or the other passenger.
The OSHP has thanked the public for tips that assisted in the investigation.
Kennedy will be arraigned in the Marion Municipal Court at a later date.
