Pedestrian struck and killed by tractor-trailer after crash on I-77 in York County: SCDPS

YORK COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A woman was killed Thursday night after a series of crashes on I-77 in York County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash happened around 9:52 p.m. on southbound I-77 near the 73-mile marker.

According to Highway Patrol, a woman was driving a 2013 Volkswagen sedan south on I-77 when the vehicle hydroplaned, ran off the right side of the road, struck a ditch, and became disabled.

Troopers said the driver, 40-year-old Tasia Villa of Chester, got out of the vehicle and was standing in the road when a 2018 Volvo tractor-trailer struck both her and the disabled car.

Villa died at the scene. No other injuries were immediately reported.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
