SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) -A Springfield man who stopped to help the driver of an overturned tractor-trailer on Interstate 44 near Miami, Oklahoma, has died from his injuries, nearly two weeks after the crash.
Dylan Hoyt and a group of people were traveling home from street racing on July 12 when they came across an overturned semi-truck on the westbound side of I-44. Hoyt and his group stopped to help the truck driver. While they were at the scene, a second semi-truck crashed into the area, striking Hoyt with debris.
Dylan’s mom, Melissa Hartsell said her son had always had a love for cars and was well known in the Springfield racing community. He had been scheduled to interview for a diesel mechanic job the week following the crash.
“He loved everybody. He really did. And he loved his family,” Hartsell said. “He loved the racing community. He really did love the racing community.”
One of the tractor-trailer drivers also died in the crash. The Springfield racing community rallied around Hoyt and his family during the weeks he fought for his life.
